Gripping the yellow Verizon receiver, Kush realized this would be a difficult call to make. 

He didn't have enough change to call the Berkshires. 

If he reversed the charges, Steve wouldn't accept the call: especially not person-to-person. He could imagine Steve's familiar chuckle.

The only other option was his phone credit card. Kush hated the idea. He didn't know the AT&T number to dial and never remembered their account number.

He didn't want to look foolish fishing for the card in his wallet. 
Anyway, he was always forgetting the PIN. 

Maybe he could scrape together the coins--fifty cents just for a local call!--to reach his wife Kate at work, and get all those numbers from her.
