Miss Simmons died unexpectedly on March 3, 2001 one day after her 90th birthday. Her memorial service will be Saturday, April 28th at 2pm at the Presbyterian Church in Millerton. Her obituary was published in the Poughkeepsie Journal March 4.
Front Page News!
Thanks to Sandy Berger, Webutuck class of '63 (who also happens to be the National Security Advisor), our reunion got on the front page of the Sunday, July 30, 2000 edition of the Poughkeepsie Journal.
And did you see the whole page of pictures on page B1 of the August 3, 2000 issue of The Millerton News?
Here is an open letter of thanks from Sally Smith.
We have pictures from the Cocktail Party Friday night, the Building Viewing and Around Town Saturday, the Main Event Saturday night, and the Breakfast Sunday morning. I've put up all the pictures I took and all I've received. If any of you have any you'd like to see here, send them to me. If you see a picture you don't want up, let me know. I've already taken down two.
Sally Smith
and a cadre of helpers organized a multi-class
(1956 through 1964) reunion. You can call her at (518) 766-9298, write her at PO Box 469, Millerton NY 12546, or e-mail her at
sassers at earthlink.net. The reunion
was held on
Saturday, July 29, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. at
Island Green Country Club in Amenia, NY.
[A quick lesson for web newbies: Any word or phrase that is (usually) underlined, like "People" in the second line of this page, is called a "hyperlink". You click on it and something happens. Usually it will take you to another page in the web site. Sometimes it will take you into your e-mail program ready to send an e-mail to Sally or me or someone else. It should be obvious from the context what will happen. Clicking on "People" above takes you to a page with each class on it as a hyperlink. Clicking on a hyperlink for one of the classes takes you to a page for that class. Use the "Back" button on your browser to work your way back to this page. Another trick is to "bookmark" this page or save it as a "favorite". That means you won't have to type in that long web page address again. Just select it from your list of bookmarks or favorites.]

Sally Smith hopes that you filed out and returned the Questionnaire
on page 2 of the Directory. Here's the committee shortly after they reviewed
your responses. Now they know how to do it better next time. (Why does Sally
have her eyes closed? See no evil in those responses?)
There were articles about the reunion in The Millerton News, February 3, 2000, June 1, 2000, July 27, 2000, and August 3, 2000. Did you see them? A recent Lakeville Journal had an article, too. So did the August 3, 2000 issue of the Harlem Valley Times.

For old times sake, I've dredged up some old photos. Please rummage through your old photo albums and pick out some classics that I can add to these. If you can get them scanned, so much the better. E-mail the jpeg files to me (steve at sblanchard.us). Otherwise, send the photos to me at the address below. Make sure you mark each one with your name and address so I can return them. And please identify people in the photo if you can. To protect people's privacy, I only use first name and last initial as it was in high school.
I've also included links to personal web pages. If you have a personal web site you'd like me to include a link to, e-mail the link to me (steve at sblanchard.us) and I will add it.
Are there any other blasts from the past you'd like me to post here? Stories? Drawings? Quotes from yearbooks? Cheers? E-mail them to me (steve at sblanchard.us) and I'll post 'em.

"The halls of Webutuck Central School have already seen
many styles come and go but with summer supposedly on its way, the above were
noticed on their way to class. Chatting with Mrs. Paul Tierney[sic], whose face
registers something but we know not what, are Palmer Newman and J. Stevens
Blanchard."
(Bruce Taft Photo in the June 12, 1958 issue of The Harlem Valley Times.)
Mrs. Terni's name is really spelled "Terni" and she is Mrs. Arthur Terni, not Mrs. Paul Terni. You can't believe everything you read.
Mrs. Terni died just recently. She would have been 92. We miss our Madame Terni. |
